Yesterday, the selecting commission began voting on the interim parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka, where it is expected that the new leftist party of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will gain a majority of seats. The 55-year-old politician is expected to secure two to three seats in the parliament out of 225, in order to continue economic reforms after the 2022 crisis.
The election commission stated that over 80,000 police officers were deployed to monitor the electoral participants. The "National Liberation Front" party, led by Dissanayake, the main participant in the coalition "National People's Authority," aims to form a future government.
