The urgent restoration of electricity in Sri Lanka after the incident with the elephant stuck in the previous station became a priority for the authorities. The complete restoration of electricity took about seven hours, causing a recurrence of similar situations.

One of the security guards noted the consequences regarding the responsibility of the elephant for the incident and stated that such animals often penetrate into the facility, but similar situations had not been reported earlier. "Elephants constantly penetrate into the station, but I do not believe that they specifically became the reason for the shutdown," he noted.

The incident reminded of a major shutdown of electricity in the country during the summer of 2022, when a severe deficit of energy sources was recorded. This caused fear among citizens regarding the possibility of new crises, especially after the release from the structure of the corner station in Norocholai, which puts at risk possible future outages.

Sri Lanka felt a complete lack of electricity after an unusual incident at the Panadura power station. The elephant penetrated the facility and created a disruption in electricity supply throughout the country. The incident occurred recently at 11:30 local time, when a group of elephants entered the station and one of them disabled the main transmission lines, causing an unexpected shutdown.

At the initial stage, specialists in electricity did not know the exact causes of the failure; however, the Minister of Energy of Sri Lanka, Kumar DJayakodi, later confirmed that the incident was related to this group of animals. "The elephant disconnected our energy transformer, which led to a breakdown of the system," he said in a comment for local media.
