In the city of Sri Lanka, located south of India, an unusual incident occurred that left the locality without power for at least six hours. The cause: a monkey that accidentally fell onto an electrical transformer, causing a power outage.
Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody informed local media about this unusual event, stating that the impact of the primate against the transformer triggered an imbalance in the island's electrical system, affecting its 23 million inhabitants. The incident took place at the power station in the city of Panadura, located near Colombo in southwestern Sri Lanka.
It was detailed that the station involved is an electrical substation, which is why authorities are investigating how a failure in the transformer at this installation could leave the entire island without power. As a precautionary measure, owners of solar panels on their rooftops were asked to disconnect their systems from the main grid.
"An incident where a monkey collided with a transformer caused this failure," explained Minister Jayakody, highlighting the uniqueness of the cause that triggered the blackout in the region.
